Bulldogs make quick work of Sitka

Posted: Sunday, September 23, 2001

After a long day of travel Friday, the Nikiski Bulldogs still had enough energy to dominate the Sitka Wolves Saturday in Great Land Conference play.

The Bulldogs defeated the Wolves 56-0 behind two touchdowns and 224 rushing yards from Steve Calderwood and three touchdowns and three interceptions from David Holloway.

Nikiski remained undefeated in the Great Land Conference with the victory.

Bulldogs coach Scott Anderson was concerned about the game due to the traveling. Nikiski spent about seven hours en route to Sitka Friday.

"I was really proud of our kids," Anderson said. "We didn't get into Sitka until 11 p.m., but this was one of our best games of the year. We executed real well, and we were playing on a sand field."

While Nikiski's offense rolled up points, the defense kept the Wolves from going anywhere. Sitka gained just 3 yards all day as the Bulldogs defense picked up 14 sacks.

"Our defense was just stifling," Anderson said. "They were everywhere. Our line and our linebackers were able to get to the quarterback."
