Lake Clark fire festival planned

Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, the Alaska NPS Fire Management staff and the Alaska Division of Forestry will host a wildland fire festivalSept. 30 through Oct. 2 at the Nondalton school.

Festivities will begin on September 30 at 4:30 p.m. with the commencement of a free ED 580 R (1 graded credit) Fire in Alaska workshop for teachers, scout leaders and anyone interested in wildland fire.

The workshop will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 pm.

On Sunday a community Firewise workshop will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. After a community potluck from noon until 1 p.m., participants from each workshop are invited to reconvene at the school and join in on a forum about Firewise assistance opportunities.

A Firewise home assessment, which the whole community is welcome to participate in, will follow the forum.
