Ms. Waite was born July 26, 1917, to John and Francis Joslin in Detroit, Mich. On May 8, 1937, she married Clarence M. Waite.

"Betty was very active in the establishing of the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. In 1988 the First Lady of Alaska Michael Cowper honored her for donating 3,390 hours of volunteer time. She was an avid quilter and took great pride in the beautification of her yard, whether it was flowers in the summer time or Christmas decor in winter," her family said.

Ms. Waite was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, John C. Joslin.

She is survived by her son, Bob Waite; daughter, Jeanie Robinson; son-in-law, Bob Robinson; granddaughters, Lauralee Smart, Cindy Robinson and Trixie Spicer; grandson-in-laws, Grant Perry and Steven Spicer; great-grandchildren, Angel Spicer, Josephine Smart, Shovaughnna Smart, Bobby Spicer, Chris Spicer and Dillian Spicer; and great-great-grandchildren, Xavier DesOrmeux and Haedyn Smart.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Star of the North Lutheran Church, 216 N. Forest Dr. Kenai, AK 99611.

Arrangements were made with Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
