FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Cantwell man awaiting trial on a domestic violence charge was jailed for allegedly holding his girlfriend and her disabled 12-year-old daughter captive for two days, authorities said.

Cecil Martin, 39, was arrested Thursday on felony offenses of kidnapping and third-degree assault. The girlfriend managed to escape and fled to a gas station where she called Alaska State Troopers.

Martin pleaded innocent Friday. A judge issued bail at $100,000 and approved Martin's request for a public defender.

Trooper Rod Johnson said Martin did not injure the child but the girlfriend sustained a black eye and pain and swelling in one of her arms.
