Hike planned today

The Kenai Peninsula Outdoor Club will lead a hike to Slaughter Gulch today. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, water and hiking boots and meet at Fred Meyer coffee shop in Soldotna, at noon. For more information, call Todd at 283-8426.

Hockey registration slated

Registration for all levels of Nikiski Youth Hockey will begin Monday and run through Oct. 6, each Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area.

Support program planned

An eight-week Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center Family Support Program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Central Peninsula General Hospital meeting room FRC No. 3. The class will deal with issues concerning communication with teenagers.

Screening clinic to check children

A screening clinic will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Frontier Community Services. The screening is free of charge and is for children from birth to 3 years.

Work party held to clean cemetery

The Anchor Point Cemetery Committee will host a community work party at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Anchor Point Public Cemetery. The party will clean up the cemetery and is open to the public. Veterans picnic planned

A veterans picnic will be held at noon Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Kenai. Food and entertainment will be provided.

Raffle tickets available

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are sponsoring a fund-raiser raffle for the library through Oct. 25. The 300 tickets are $100 each. Anyone buying a ticket can attend one of two dinners which will be held at the Eagles Club in Kenai. The first dinner, on Oct. 27, will include drawings for cash prizes, including the grand prize of $7,500. The second dinner, on Oct. 28, will include music.

Genealogy library open to public

The Family History Center Library in Soldotna has information and librarians to assist in genealogy research. The library is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and then again from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 4 to 7 p.m.
