ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage police arrested a man on charges of operating a methamphetamine lab, having a pipe bomb in his trailer and domestic violence.

Steve T. Morgenroth, 31, was arrested Saturday morning at his trailer at the Hillside on Gambell Motel and RV Park, police Lt. Daniel K. Cole said. During the arrest, officers noticed evidence of a meth lab and a 1-inch-diameter pipe bomb in Morgenroth's trailer, Cole said.

The discovery prompted an evacuation of the RV park and a visit by the police bomb squad. Residents were allowed back into the area Saturday evening, when police determined that there was no longer any danger.

Police first went to the RV park looking for Morgenroth around 11 p.m. Friday after motel employee Kelly Kane had called to report that Morgenroth was abusing his wife.

Morgenroth left before police arrived. Officers returned to the park several times looking for Morgenroth before they found him Saturday morning.

Police spokeswoman Anita Schell said Morgenroth is being charged with criminal possession of explosives, misconduct involving a controlled substance in the first degree and domestic violence.
