Eagle scout receives recognition

Kristopher Mark Walker was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a ceremony held at the Kenai Elks Lodge on Aug. 14. Walker received recognition from the president of the United States. After completing 21 merit badges, he performed a service project that consisted of organizing Boy Scout Troop 357 and others in the community to develop and complete landscaping at the Erik Hansen Scout Park on the bluff in Kenai.

Student awarded scholarship

Lucus Bauer, a senior geology major at Colorado State University, has been awarded the Roy G. and Ruth K. Coffin Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,600. The award is for the 2001-2002 school year. Bauer is a 1998 graduate of Skyview High School from Kasilof.

Airman graduates basic training

Air Force Airman Aaron T. Russell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations. Airmen who complete basic training earn college credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Russell is the son of Pam Russell of Nikiski. He is a 1998 graduate of Nikiski High School.
