Admission counselor to visit area

Caroline Mueller, associate director of admission at the University of Puget Sound, will visit the area Thursday to provide information to students who may be interested in attending the University of Puget Sound. She will be at Homer High School at 8:30 a.m., at Soldotna High School at 11 a.m. and at Kenai High School at 1:15 p.m. The University of Puget Sound is a private liberal arts college in Tacoma, Wash., with 2,600 students and offers course work in the liberal arts and sciences. Scholarship program deadline Saturday

All applications for the Alaska Junior Miss Scholarship Program must be postmarked no later than Saturday. This annual competition is part of a nationwide endeavor to reward high school senior girls for their accomplishments and can help them offset college tuition costs. There is no entry fee, and it's open to any young woman graduating in the spring of 2002. Contestant packets are available from high school counselors. Racing awards banquet slated

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions, Drag Racing Division, awards banquet will be held Saturday starting at 6 p.m. for cocktails and 7 p.m. for dinner at the Eagles Lodge. Awards will be given for the season champion in points and the first through third winners in all classes. A $100 award will go to the first-place season winners in Pro, Super Street, Street and Bike/Snow classes. Season trophies will be awarded in the Junior Dragster class as well. And the Red Light King and Queen, Most Improved Racer and Hard Luck Racer will be named.

The cost of dinner will be $17.75 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Dinner will consist of roasted prime rib or grilled Teriyaki chicken breast. Homer Community Schools catalog available

The Homer Community Schools fall catalog should have arrived in mailboxes and businesses around Anchor Point and Homer by Saturday. Call 235-6090 with any questions. The prices for yoga classes have changed. The Yoga Potpourri and Yoga Flow classes are $60 each, yoga fundamentals is $60 for 12 sessions or $100 for 23 sessions. There is a $5 registration fee and a $7 drop fee for each class. The Meditation of Heaven and Earth class meets from 6 to 9 p.m., not 6 to 7 p.m.
