DALLAS -- Chad Deering scored as the Dallas Burn tied the Chicago Fire 1-1 Sunday to force a decisive game in their opening round MLS playoff series.

In the MLS playoff system, the first team to five points wins the series. Each team gets three points for a victory and one for a tie in the three-game series.

Chicago, which leads four points to one, needs just a tie at home in Game 3 to take the series.

MetroStars 1, Galaxy 1

PASADENA, Calif. -- Paul Caligiuri scored in the 63rd minute to give Los Angeles a 1-1 tie with New York/New Jersey in the opening game of their first-round series.

Both teams earned a point. New York/New Jersey's Rodrigo Faria scored the first goal in the 29th minute. The MetroStars played with 10 men for the final 35 minutes after Gilmar was ejected in the 65th minute.

Caligiuri also received a red card in the 82nd minute.

Before the game, players entered the field in alternating order, instead of with their teams. Then they posed for a group picture as a sign of unity following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
