Nikiski Elementary

Kindergartners from Nikiski and North Star elementary schools held a joint field trip to the beach and collected rocks. The trip was intended as a way to begin nurturing new friendships in anticipation of the consolidation of the schools next year.

The PTA is looking for community volunteers to sit on six committees and assist with the planning for the consolidation of Nikiski and North Star schools. For more information or to volunteer, call Peggy Jones at 776-4161 or Ann Holloway at 776-4144.

This week is Banned Books Week, sponsored by the American Library Association. It is to promote awareness that censorship of books is taking place in the United States. For more information, visit www.ala.org/bbooks.

The Nikiski Clubhouse is providing after-school homework help and other activities for students. For information on how to register your child for this program, call Ann Holloway at 776-4144.

Students are invited to attend the before-school reading program from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Tutors are available to help students as they enjoy good books.

All parents are invited to attend the first Title I meeting of the year. It will begin after school Monday at Nikiski Elementary. The agenda will include this year's reading plan, parent involvement and consolidation plans with North Star for 2004-05 school year.
