I recently celebrated another birthday and found the quote to be fitting.
This time of year is one of my favorites, with the beautifully colored leaves even the rain has been tolerable. The last bit of vegetables has been picked from many gardens and I have talked to many Nikiski residents gearing up to make jelly with area berries.
A book study will take place at the Nikiski Senior Center today at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call 776-7654.
Don't forget about the weekly activities for kids and adults at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center: Adult open gym will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $1; toddler time will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per child; home school gym time will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $1 per child; and teen center will be held Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $1 or yearly memberships available. The Nikiski Neighbors will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Nikiski Senior Center.
The 13th annual Thelma McConnell Scholarship dinner will be held Oct. 6 at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Nikiski Senior Center.
The Nikiski pool will offer an American Red Cross Lifeguard class Oct. 3 through 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Oct. 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call Nigel at 776-8800.
Fall school pictures will be held Tuesday at Nikiski North Star Elementary.
The Nikiski North Star Preschool program meets at 9:30 on Friday in classroom 12. The class is for kids under the age of 4 and will be held each Friday. Participants will be involved in art projects; playtime and a snack will be served. Parents will rotate bringing snacks and projects. For more information, call Jenny at 776-5575.

Jennifer and Steve Chamberlain of Nikiski announce the birth of their son, Everett Thomas, at 3:23 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at home with assistance from Woman's Way Midwifery.
He weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces.
He joins big brother, Charlie.
