The Alaska Independent Living Council has honored Mary Warrington with its 2000 Independent Living Service Provider Award for her volunteer work with the traumatic brain injury support group.
The executive director and chairman of the state group visited the Central Peninsula Independent Living Center in Soldotna Thursday to present the award.
The staff and clients at the center had nominated Warrington for the award.
Warrington got involved with the group about five years ago. She helped revitalize the central peninsula support group and worked with others to organize the Brain Injury Association of Alaska. The association works for prevention and advocates for people whose lives have been affected by brain injuries.
She also works to distribute helmets and to raise funds for the association through its annual awareness walk in Kenai.
The central peninsula support group is affiliated with the Independent Living Center, which works to ensure equal opportunity and inclusion of people who experience disabilities.
