ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A fire destroyed a large storage facility owned by Trident Seafoods in Akutan Monday.
There were no injuries, but the 30,000-square-foot building was a total loss, said Earl Hubbard, Trident's vice president of regulatory affairs, who was at the scene Tuesday.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Hubbard said. It started at about 8:30 a.m. and spread to the other, burning most of the day, Hubbard said.
Fiber packaging boxes, a sugar-based stabilizer and fishing vessel equipment were stored in the building, Hubbard said. Fishermen, locals, Trident employees and firefighters from Unalaska and Akutan fought the blaze.
The fire was contained to just the warehouse, Hubbard said. The nearby dock, vessels and the fuel and tank farms were not damaged, and pollock was processed at Trident's Akutan plant Tuesday.
Hubbard said the fire was a setback, but that Trident would rebuild.
