Nikiski resident Bill H. Chenault died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, in Bullhead City, Ariz. after a short illness. He was 66.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Kenai. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Chenault home immediately following graveside services at the Kenai Cemetery to visit and reminisce.
He was born in Shamrock, Texas, Jan. 25, 1936, to Rachel and Bohmer Chenault. In 1954, he met the love of his life, Helen, and they were married in Hobbs, N.M., in 1955.
In 1967, Mr. Chenault and his wife packed their three children in a station wagon and moved to the Kenai Peninsula. They lived in Nikiski, adding two more children to the family.
He was involved in many community activities. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Elks, Moose Lodge, Shriners, the Masonic Lodge, Peninsula Petroleum Club and the Alaska Petroleum Institute. Mr. Chenault served on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly and also served on the board of directors of the National Bank of Alaska.
Mr. Chenault started his career in the oil industry by working for El Paso Natural Gas in Farmington, N.M. His career in Alaska started when he worked for Offshore Fabricators as a welder. In 1969, he and his wife started their own company, QWICK Construction Inc. He worked on most of the platforms in Cook Inlet and various oil and fertilizer plants in Nikiski before his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Chenault was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rachel and Bohmer Chenault; brothers, Robert and Leon Chenault; sister, Gaylene Rogers; mother and father in-law, Robert and Inez Landrum; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Abby and Wilma Kidd; and grandson David Chenault.
Mr. Chenault is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen of Kenai; children, Kim Foley of Kenai, Ron Chenault of Kenai; sons and daughter-in-laws, Mike and Tanna Chenault of Nikiski, Don and Sharaf Chenault of Las Vegas; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Mark Connolly of Kenai; sisters, Patsy Ross of Dallas, Juanita Wilkins of Lovington, N.M., and Betty Moore of Loveland, Texas; sisters and brother-in-laws, Charles and Carolyn Landrum of Hobbs, N.M., Shirlee and Sonny Baughman of Belle Fouch, S.D., Linda and Murdock Williams of Rome, Ga.; and grandchildren, Ian and Katie Foley, Brandon, Elisha, Shanda and Miranda Chenault, Anna, DJ and Chase Chenault, Tyler Chenault and Cameron Heikkila.
