A committee of the Homer Electric Association Board of Directors recommended Tuesday that Mike Nugent be appointed to fill the vacant Kenai-Nikiski district seat.
Nugent, the former general manager of the Agrium plant in North Kenai, was one of 10 applicants seeking to fill the seat vacated when Fred Braun resigned in August.
The HEA board of directors will consider the committee's recommendation at the next regular board meeting Oct. 14 in Homer.
Board President Dave Carey said the unanimous decision to recommend Nugent was based on several factors, including Nugent's extensive business background.
"Mr. Nugent's experience at Agrium and his close ties to the community will be a great asset to the board and members of the Homer Electric Association," Carey said.
Nugent retired from Agrium during the summer, after serving as the facility's general manager for seven years.
If approved by the board, he will serve until May 5, when the seat will be up for election during HEA's annual meeting.
