Kenai resident Shirley J. Larsen died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 72.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at McGahan Cemetery in Nikiski. Pastor Laura Skiva will officiate.
Ms. Larsen was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., where she was raised and graduated high school. She lived most of her life in Oregon and had worked as a waitress for 40 years at Denny's. She was never able to retire but never went on welfare. She was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed collecting precious moment figurines.
"Shirley was a great caring, honest, hard-working and godly person who was liked by all. She was a great mom, raised my daughter and me and worked until she was 70 years old. She deserved better but we know she is in heaven," her son said.
Ms. Larsen is survived by her son, Gregory Larsen of Kenai; granddaughter Karen Hilburn and her husband, William, of St. Helens, Ore.; and great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Cory Hilburn of St. Helens.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
