Agrium live fire training continues

Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations will conduct live fire training for its employees and the Nikiski Fire Department at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and additional sessions at 7:45 a.m. Thursdays through September at the plant at Mile 21 of the Kenai Spur Highway.

Propane, gasoline and diesel will be used in the training. Occasionally there will be smoke and open flames visible from the highway near the northwest corner of the plant.

LeeShore board meeting set

The LeeShore Center's board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the center at 325 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. It is open to the public.

SoHi offers lifeguard training

The Soldotna High School swimming pool staff will hold a lifeguard training class Saturday at the pool. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Preregistration is recommended.

Hockey registration, sports swap planned

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association will hold registration and a skate swap from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Used hockey gear may be dropped off between 9 and 10 a.m. Youth ages 4 to 18 may join.

Hockey referees sought

Community members interested in officiating hockey games are required to attend a free USA hockey seminar for certification every year.

The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center for levels one through three.

Attendees are asked to bring skates, a helmet and a whistle.

Lunch will be provided. This will be the only seminar held in the Soldotna area for beginning officials. A seminar will be held in Homer on Oct. 19 and 20.

Pingpong returns

Pingpong is available to play for free from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through mid-December at Redoubt Elementary School on Binkley Avenue.

Adults and children (at least 6 years old) and of any skill level are welcome.

Tables and equipment provided by the Boys and Girls Club and the school. Players are asked to bring a paddle if they have one. Supplies may be limited.

The LeeShore Center's community directory of central Kenai Peninsula resources is available for $25 with a three-ring binder or $15 for refill pages only.

The directory lists more than 80 pages of information on emergency services, family support agencies, health facilities, senior citizens services and veteran's organizations.
