Bible study slated

A weekly Bible study called Jesus in the Gospels is scheduled to begin Oct. 7 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Soldotna United Methodist Church, 158 S Binkley Street.

Jesus in the Gospels focuses on the portraits of Jesus found in the four Gospels--Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The word in used in the title signals that this study takes an approach different from the familiar "life and teaching of Jesus" approach of reading stories and accounts of what Jesus said and did in order to draw conclusions about their meaning and about who Jesus was. This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each of the Gospels. Each author is sharing their view of Jesus.

Each participant will have a manual to do the weekly preparation that will be discussed each week. The manuals will be available Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in order to be prepared for the kick off. The study is mainline Christianity that is part of the Disciples Series through the Cokesbury Publishing House and the Upper Room. Contact Karolann Whetsell at 262-4958. We will have childcare.
