Dart league to hold meeting

The Kenai Mixed Dart League will meet at 7 tonight at BJ's. For more information, call Lowell at 283-3483.

Election event planned

The Kenai Chrysler Center will host a "Election Central" event, to watch the election rsults come in. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the New Chrysler Center,10288 Kenai Spur Highway. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Doggie Dash to be held for Dee Dee

There will be a 5-kilometer run on the Tsalteshi Trails for dogs and their humans at 10 a.m. Oct. 5. Humans without dogs are welcome, too. This will be a fund-raiser for Dee Dee Jonrowe, a longtime Alaska musher who is receiving breast cancer treatment. Please bring leashes. This is a special opportunity to enjoy the trails in autumn weather. For more information, call Mindee Morning at 283-3954.

Refuge to host play

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host the play, "A Sense of Wonder," at the Soldotna High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Oct. 11. The play is based on the life of Rachel Carson, noted American writer and conservationist. The play is a gift from the Refuge to the community. There will be no admission charge to attend. Due to the mature theme the performance is recommended for ages 13 and older. It will be performed by actress Kaiulani Lee. Ms. Lee has performed in movies, television and on Broadway. She wrote "A Sense of Wonder" as a tribute to Rachel Carson. This is the 40-year anniversary of Rachel Carson's ground-breaking book, "Silent Spring." In 1962, the book first warned the public about the long term health hazards of pesticide use to wildlife and people. The Refuge is sponsoring this event to kick off the Centennial Celebration of the National Wildlife Refuge System. KDLL Public Radio and Soldotna High School also are co-sponsors of the event.

Center to offer video program

The Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center is offering the innovative video-based program "Active Parenting of Teens." The program will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will meet each Friday for eight weeks starting Oct. 25 at Central Peninsula General Hospital in the Illiamna meeting room. It will include scenarios relevant to teen issues, professionally led group discussion and support, and practical and effective ideas for raising teens in today's world. It also will address effective communication, importance of relationship development between parent and teens, alcohol, substance abuse and sexual behavior. Senior center to hold bazaar

The Nikiski Senior Center will hold its annual Fall Bazaar and Bake Sale Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and 2. Tables are available for rent for $10 a day. For more information and to reserve a table, call Leigh or Sherry at 766-7654.
