JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) -- A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued two Haines fishermen Wednesday from a stranded fishing vessel kin the Gulf of Alaska.

Patrick Morden, 32, and John Owens, 36, radioed for help from the 30-foot Cape Kumlick on Wednesday morning, saying engine and throttle problems had stranded them in 18-foot seas 36 miles southwest of Icy Bay.

The message reached Tsivat River Lodge in Cordova and was forwarded through another lodge to the Coast Guard.

The helicopter crew transported the two to Cordova, where they planned to arrange a commercial salvage vessel to retrieve their boat.
