Mozart concert read-through today

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra will collaborate with the Homer High School to produce a concert of Mozart's Requiem Mass, directed by Mark Robinson, the first weekend in April 2002.

There will be a read-through rehearsal for all community choir participants today at 7 p.m. in the Homer High School choir room. Anyone interested in getting a preview of singing this piece should plan to attend.

Soldotna area singers will begin rehearsing Oct. 18.

Weekly rehearsals will be held in conjunction with the Kenai Peninsula College Choir and continue through the fall semester. Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. and the group will meet at KPC in room 124. For more information, contact Maria Allison at 283-3024 or Jean Brockel at 262-4084, who will coordinate the choir in the Soldotna area.

Orchestra rehearsals will begin in January, but interested players can contact Laura Norton at (907) 299-2453 to get music earlier.

'Nutcracker' auditions planned

The Anchorage Concert Association in cooperation with Alaska Dance Theatre will host auditions for dancing parts in Ballet West's 2001 "Nutcracker" production. A "How to Audition" class will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. Auditions will be Oct. 5, 6 and 7. For more information, contact Denise Brown at 272-1471.

Did you ever dress up for Halloween?The Peninsula Clarion is seeking fun photographs of kids in costume for an upcoming edition.

Submit your photos and print a brief explanation, the names of those pictured and a phone number and name of a contact person to Halloween Photos, c/o Peninsula Clarion, P.O. Box 3009, Kenai, AK 99611 or drop them by the Kenai or Soldotna Clarion offices.

Only photos with an address written on the back will be returned. E-mailed photos will not be accepted.

Art proposals sought

The Fireweed Gallery is seeking proposals for readings, exhibitions of art in all media and other events for 2002. The deadline is Nov. 1. Include a letter of application, artist's statement, resume, pictures or slides and three choices of months for exhibition or date of event.
