Gibbs graduates as systems specialist
Army Spec. Nicholas N. Gibbs has graduated from the signal support systems specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.
The 10-week course is designed to train students in the skills, knowledge and responsibilities required to provide telecommunications and signal support systems, as well as terminal devices and integrating signal systems and networks to combat units on the battlefield.
Students receive instruction in operation, installation, troubleshooting, maintainence and repair of various field wire equipment, radio, telephone and associated communications systems.
Gibbs is the son of James E. Gibbs of Soldotna and brother of Ellery E. Gibbs of Newport News, Va.
He is a 1995 graduate of Anchorage Christian High School.
Navarre named Volunteer of the Year
Tim Navarre recently was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year by the Kenai River Sportfishing Association. The award was presented at KRSA's annual Volunteer Appreciation Day, where 150 volunteers were honored for their contribution in making the Kenai River Classic a successful event for conservation and stewardship of the Kenai River.
