Bridge would damage neighborhood, river

Posted: Tuesday, September 27, 2005

To the people of the Kenai Peninsula, I ask you to please vote "no" — no to both parts of Proposition 3. The proposal to build the bridge across the Kenai River is extremely flawed! It will destroy the quiet solitude of the Scout Lake area and create a deathtrap on the narrow roads of Scout Lake, where children play and wildlife is abundant.

"Our" river is being loved to death, and if this bridge is built it will be just another nail in the coffin, by destroying more spawning grounds and creating one more "accident waiting to happen."

We, as taxpayers, need to send a message to all politicians (especially the several who stand to benefit financially from the project), that we don't want our homes taxed anymore for their "pet projects."

Please take a drive down Scout Lake, turn onto Huske and imagine four lanes of tourist and Anchorage traffic and a bridge dumping salt and sand into "our river."

God bless America and the Kenai Peninsula. I trust you'll do the right thing! Vote "no" on proposition 3.
