Hockey seminars set

A USA Hockey seminar for officials will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Soldotna Sports Center. This is an advanced seminar for level three officials only. A seminar for officials at levels one, two and three will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 23. Officials are required to take a seminar each year to be certified to be eligible to officiate hockey. For more information, call Dick Waisanen at 262-6298.

Kenai Peninsula Foundation holds meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Foundation will hold a meeting on how to establish endowment funds and other planned giving programs under the Kenai Peninsula Foundation and Alaska Community Foundation umbrella at 2 p.m. today at city hall in Soldotna. For more information call Michelle at 335-2022.

Natural child birth class to be held

A class on the Bradley Method of husband-coached child birth will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 141 Trumpeter Ave. in Soldotna. The class is free and open to the public. For more information or to register call 260-2665.

Kennel club classes planned

The Kenai Kennel Club is gearing up for fall classes at its facility in the C Plaza in Kenai. Classes include agility, basic, intermediate and advance obedience, rally and conformation. Sign-ups also are being taken for a Canine Good Citizen class, which begins Sept. 30.

Scouting books, uniforms sought

The Cub Scout Pack 654 and Boy Scout Troop 659 of Nikiski are seeking scouting books and uniforms (new or used) for the Hurricane Katrina scouting survivors.

The drive is being held in conjunction with Houston (Texas) Pack 197.

Donation boxes are at Nikiski North Star Elementary, Nikiski Middle-Senior High School and North Star Methodist Church. For more information, call Carol Strickland at 776-5683.

Hospice training announced

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will offer volunteer training in October. Training will be from held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 20, 24 and 25 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. Space is limited. It is open to the public. To preregister, call 262-0453.

KPC holds community film night

Kenai Peninsula College will hold a community film night in the KPC Commons on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The feature film will be "What the Bleep Do We Know?" followed by "Message From Water."

Popcorn fund-raiser begins

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the Tustumena District of the Western Alaska Council are selling Trails End popcorn to earn money to help purchase uniforms, fund activities and pay for camp. To locate a pack or troop in the Kenai, Soldotna, Seward, Homer, Nikiski, Ninilchik or Tustumena areas, call Steve Coen at 283-1699.
