Longtime Kenai resident Helen Ruth Wise died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. She was 73.
A private family viewing was held Wednesday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
Mrs. Wise was born March 14, 1930, to Benjamin and Dora (McGee) Nance in Daisetta, Texas. She lived in the Liberty, Texas, area from 1950-65.
Mrs. Wise landed at the Kenai airport with her husband and three children Dec. 26, 1967. She had moved from Morgan City, La., to Kenai, where she lived and raised her children.
"She was a very outgoing and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She played the piano and organ and loved listening to and collecting gospel and country music. She also enjoyed going to garage sales. Helen had brightened the lives of everyone who knew her and will be sorely missed by all who had an opportunity to know her. We love you, Mom," her family said.
Mrs. Wise is survived by her son, Terry Wise of Homer; daughter, Ruth Smith of Eagle River; son, David Wise of Kenai; grandsons, Randy Wise of Soldotna and Joshua Smith of Anchorage; granddaughter, Mellissa Cue of Kenai; and longtime companion, Al Walters of Kenai.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Wise's name to the MS Society, 511 W. 41st Ave. Suite 101, Anchorage, AK 99503.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
