Basketball leagues forming

The Boys and Girls Club is accepting registrations for its third- and fourth-grade and seventh- and eighth-grade coed basketball leagues. Youth may register in person from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Kenai Recreation Center. Registrations also may be faxed to 283-4675 or mailed in to 227 Caviar St., Kenai, AK 99611. Deadline for KPBSD committees today

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is seeking volunteers to serve the following committees:

* The budget committee will meet Nov. 9 and 12. This committee will review the district's budget parameters to provide suggestions for consideration in developing the FY09 budget to be submitted to the Board of Education.

* The health curriculum will meet Oct. 2 and 18. This committee will review the current curriculum and make necessary changes based on Alaska state standards and national recommendations in the area of health education.

* The science curriculum will meet Oct. 16. This committee will review the current curriculum and make necessary changes based on Alaska State standards, current data, and research in the field of science.

* Federal programs advisory committee. This committee reviews district data and makes recommendations for districtwide activities in keeping with the state and federal regulations for grant programs. Three meetings are held each year. Attendance at meetings is required. An application for this committee can be found at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/departments.aspx?id=7822.

Hockey registration, sports swap planned

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association will hold registration and a skate swap from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Used hockey gear may be dropped off between 9 and 10 a.m. Youth ages 4 to 18 may join.

Marathon to hit the streets

The annual Kenai River Marathon will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

Race officials are seeking runners interested in participating in the half-marathon, relay marathon or the full marathon at 9 a.m. Sunday. Registration will be accepted through Saturday.

Event activities will include a spaghetti feed kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska and a post race party.

Registration is available online at active.com, at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center or the Mail Station in Kenai.
