ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Ahtna Native Corp. has received a federal contract to build a new headquarters and visitor center for the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve.
More than $5.6 million will go to Ahtna subsidiary Ahtna Enterprises Corp. for construction of the facility, officials said.
The headquarters will be located at Copper Center.
Ahtna, a Glennallen-based regional Native corporation, owns about 1.5 million acres in the Copper River area.
With nine subsidiaries and seven joint ventures, Ahtna is involved in environmental services, gravel, pipeline maintenance, real estate management, construction, facilities maintenance, administration, janitorial services, food services and electrical contracting.
