Hockey organization seeking participants

The Peninsula Women's Hockey Organization is starting its season Sunday. The Puffins team is open to all females ages 12 and older, and all levels of skating. Coaching is provided; the teams play against Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association teams and Anchorage women's teams. Registration is required and begins at 2:15 p.m.

Free screening clinic for children offered

Frontier Community Services early intervention program will provide a free screening clinic for children, from newborns up to age 3. The clinic will help provide parents with answers to questions about their child's development. The clinic is free. For more information, call 262-3144.

Youth bowling league begins season Sunday

The YABA League in Soldotna will begin bowling on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gold Strike Lanes. The league is open to anyone age 5 to 21. YABA has certified instructors who help young bowlers improve their abilities. YABA bowlers have opportunities throughout the year to participate in local and state tournaments. Historical society to meet Sunday

The Kenai Historical Society will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Kenai Community Library. The public is invited to join members for a slide show presented by Roger Meeks and featuring photographs of Kenai taken by Francis Meeks several years ago. Copies of the local history book, "Once Upon The Kenai," are currently available at several stores, visitor and senior centers and libraries.

Computer skills classes offered

PCI Skills Resource Center offers the following workshops: Introduction to Computers, six hours (students must call to schedule class time); Basic Skills Windows 98 / Office 97, 20 hours, starting Tuesday through Friday; Quickbooks 2000, informational class "See what Quickbooks can do," Oct. 9; Windows 98 / Office 97, six hours, Oct. 10, 11; Excel, 12 hours, Oct. 16,17; Quickbooks 2000, 14 hours, Oct. 23-26. Basketball refs looking for company: association seeks new recruits

The Kenai Peninsula Basketball Officials Association will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Kenai Merit Inn. Anyone interested in officiating basketball this season should attend. The association is recruiting new officials.

Mothers group to meet

A parenting program for pregnant mothers and mothers with young children will meet every Monday at 3 p.m. at the Kenai WIC office in the Seaman building. The group will bring together mothers who would like to meet with other women in the community to discuss parenting issues. The group has a strong breastfeeding emphasis on and is led by peer counselors. For more information, call 283-4707.
