Animals available for adoption
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of the Kenai Peninsula Inc. has the following animals available for adoption: 31 kittens and four male cats. The adoption fee is $35 each and includes shots, wormer and vouchers for spaying-neutering. There also are 130 rabbits available.
The S.P.C.A. of the Kenai Peninsula Inc. currently is seeking interested community members to apply for a seat on its board of directors. For more information, to adopt an animal or make a donation, call 262-8550.
AFRW members attend convention, receive award
Twenty members from the Alaska Federation of Republican Women recently attended the National Federation of Republican Women's 32nd Biennial Convention in Salt Lake City.
They joined 2,200 women from around the nation in passing a convention resolution in support of opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Alaska's delegation received two awards while at the convention, including first place for the highest percentage increase in membership and first runner-up for public relations for outstanding media coverage of political activities and events.
Junior Miss program slated; volunteers needed
The 2004 Alaska Junior Miss Scholarship Program, a branch of America's Junior Miss, will be held Feb. 1 to 8 in Soldotna. The annual competition is part of a nationwide endeavor to reward high school senior girls for their accomplishments. Contestants are evaluated on interviews, scholastic achievement, creative and performing arts, fitness and poise. In addition to receiving scholarship money, the winner will represent Alaska in the national finals, scheduled for June in Mobile, Ala. There is no entry fee, and the contest is open to any young woman graduating in the spring of 2004.
Applications are available in school counseling offices.
Volunteers also are needed to assist with the production of the competition. Areas of service include production, publicity, education, drivers, host families, construction, ticket sales, videography, photography and strategic planning.
