Sprague's values, character boone to borough

Posted: Wednesday, September 29, 2004

I have known Pete Sprague since I moved to Soldotna eight years ago. When I met Pete, he was on the Soldotna City Council and I was being considered, among others, for a recently vacated council seat. He was instrumental in eliminating me from contention by asking one question, before the council voted on the appointment. On reflection, I realized his question was absolutely correct and the person, who had done more for the city and community at that time, got the job.

Since that time, I have gotten to know Pete a lot better. He has our community's best interests in mind as he presides over the borough assembly, is a man of sound moral character (rare in Alaska politicians), is a very hard worker in his endeavors, works well with others and listens intently and asks good questions to obtain a balanced view of both pros and cons on issues before making an informed decision. Pete sits on several advisory boards in our community, is available to borough residents, et al, to discuss issues and comment on citizen concerns and, because of his fitness regimen, is a tireless worker for the people. We would be very lucky indeed if all our elected representatives had the values, character and work ethic of Pete Sprague.
