The staff and students thank Peterkin Distributors and Country Foods for the ice cream donation for the open house and ice cream social Tuesday night. Thanks also to the PTA for coordinating the event and serving more than 400 bowls of ice cream.

Parent volunteers still are needed. Interested parents need to see Mrs. Cowgill to watch the volunteer video. Volunteers also are needed to help with indoor recess.

School pictures are today.

Parents interested on serving on the site council need to see Mr. Wykis by Friday.

There will be a PTA meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 7. Child care will be provided.

Ms. Fischer's kindergartners have been integrating their apple unit throughout the curriculum. The students graphed their favorite types of apple and discovered how the texture of apples change using a variety of cooking experiences. They learned poems and songs about apples, made apple trees out of tissue paper and discovered there is a star inside every apple.

Ms. Ralston's first-graders have been integrating their water unit. As they experimented with using the scientific process, they learned about the three properties of water: liquid, solid and gas. They used their math skills to collect and record data. They wrote predictions about what would happen to the water in different stages, and they saw how water changes as they painted over different textures.
