The Kenai-Soldotna Women's Resource and Crisis Center is very grateful for the generous support of the community during our 20th annual KSRM Radiothon fund-raiser on Sept. 13. Individuals and businesses helped us toward our goal of $50,000 -- the final tally was $51,164.24 in cash and in-kind goods.
The success of this event was made possible by the hard work of many. KSRM Radio hosted the event by donating an entire day of air-time for fundraising and community education. Bill Popp generously emceed the program. Thanks to John Davis from KSRM and station on-air staff, who professionally engineered the program. "Remote teams" spent the day soliciting pledges of cash, in-kind goods and services throughout the community and included Tom Martin and Fleur Boyle; Tim Navarre and Marion Nelson; Summer Shier, Teri Lackey and Claudia Furlong; Betty Obendorf, Barbara Jewel and Debbie; Teri Ostrander; Allen Auxier and Lois Pilifant; Marie Rozak; and Jim Fisher and Jenni Larson. Thanks also to ACS Wireless, who donated cell phones used by remote teams.
WRCC board members June Harris and Jan Daniels worked with Jane Stein and WRCC staffers Barb Waters and Kathy Tomrdle to answer phones, take pledges and account for cash and contributions at KSRM Radio.
On-air guests included Amy Manuel, Kenai Peninsula United Way; Linda Swarner, Kenai Peninsula Food Bank; Henry Novak, Cook Inlet Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; Dr. David Shoemaker, WRCC Batterers' Intervention Program; Chief Chuck Kopp and Investigator Kelly George, Kenai Police Department; Sergeant Barry Wilson, Alaska State Troopers; Pastor Alan Humphries, Soldotna Church of God; Pastor Jon Walters, United Methodist Church of the New Covenant; June Stein, district attorney; and WRCC staffers Angie Jenkins, assistant shelter manager, and Allison Darsey, Transitional Living Center manager.
We also wish to thank Frontier Business System for their donation of Radiothon flyiers, as well as Dr. Steve Hileman, who provided original art for the Radiothon posters. Several hundred local businesses allowed us to hang flyers and posters in their establishments. Thanks also to Jim and Phyllis Bookey, who advertised the Radiothon on their business reader board.
We truly appreciate the wonderful generosity of businesses and community members in our local area. Thanks for supporting our efforts to end domestic violence and sexual assault in the central peninsula.
