Candidate views: Raymond VinZant, Borough Mayor

In 1981, my wife Violet and I moved to Alaska. After searching the west coast for a decent place to raise children we finally found Alaska, a beautiful place to call home.

We have come to love this country, every inch — the good and the bad. It was hard to get used to just two seasons, summer and winter, with a quick change in between.

I worked on the North road at the General Electric turbine shop as a machinist, until they closed the turbine division. Then I worked for GLM in Kenai, then Seward Ship Chandlery, and retired in 1991. I feel it’s important to learn about others and listen to their views. After retiring I earned 78 credits at Kenai Peninsula College. Majors: History, government, computers, accounting, Math, Supervision.
