Longtime Sterling resident Mr. John Walter Avery died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 of natural causes at his home in Sterling. He was 50.
Private family services will be held.
Mr. Avery was born April 20, 1957 to Earl and Arlene (Huffman) Avery in Seaside, Ore. He was raised in Oregon and graduated from Madras High School in Madras, Ore. Mr. Avery moved to Alaska in January of 1984 and he lived and worked for various fisheries throughout the state of Alaska. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and had a love for all animals. He enjoyed picking on his sister in-law and spending time with his brother and family.
"John was the best brother and friend anyone could have. His love for family, friends and animals, was unbelievable. He loved to read, watch sci-fi movies, fish and play cards and laugh. He was always fun to be with and will be greatly missed by all who knew him," wrote the family.
Mr. Avery is survived by his brother and sister in-law, Patrick Therain and Bessie Lee Avery of Sterling; nephews, Jonathan Paul Avery of Sterling and Joshawa Brian Skaggs of Utah; great nieces, Samantha Rea and Lauryn Nicole Avery, both of Kenai; great nephews, Triston Christopher Skaggs of Kenai and Marshall Wayne Skaggs of Utah.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Avery's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1057 West Fireweed Lane Suite 204, Anchorage, AK 99503.
