Hockey referees sought
Community members interested in officiating hockey games are required to attend a free USA Hockey seminar for certification every year.
The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Soldotna Sports Center for levels one through three.
Attendees are asked to bring skates, a helmet and a whistle.
Lunch will be provided. This will be the only seminar held in the Soldotna area for beginning officials. A seminar will be held in Homer on Oct. 19 and 20.

Soccer coaches sought
Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club is seeking coaches for the 2007-08 season. Coaches must have an E license with a D license preferred. Tuition cost for certification will be reimbursed by the club. Interested community members are asked to send a letter of intent to coach and include a summary of coaching and working with youth to board@kpsc.us or mail to KPSC, Board of Directors, P.O., Box 393, Kenai, AK 99611. The deadline to apply is Monday.
Domestic violence workshop planned
The LeeShore Center will hold a community awareness workshop on domestic violence and sexual assault from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 through 26 at the center. Topics will include domestic violence, sexual assault, effects of domestic violence on children, the center's batterers' intervention program and volunteering with shelter clients.
It is open to the public. Attendees may participate in a portion or the entire workshop. Continuing education credit may be attained after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with the center.

Lifeguard class available
The Nikiski pool will offer an American Red Cross Lifeguard class Tuesday through Oct. 7. Participants must be at least 15.
Fees are $135 per participant or free for those who qualify in the TAP Program. Space is limited. The deadline to register is Oct. 2. For more information regarding the class or the TAP program, call Nigel at 776-8800.
Prime rib dinner fundraiser set to dish
The 13th annual Thelma McConnell scholarship prime rib dinner and auction will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday (OCT. 6) at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center on the Kenai Spur Highway.
The auction will begin at 7 p.m. The price of admission is $15 for adults or $10 for children 10 and under.

Hospice seeks volunteers
Hospice of the Central Peninsula is seeking volunteers who can commit two to three hours a week for two months at a time and attend a 20-hour training session. Fall training will start the third Monday of October. For more information, call at 262-0453.

Winter bowling leagues are seeking members.
