Municipal elections held around the state

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Two dozen municipal elections were being held around the state Tuesday.

Haines residents were electing a mayor, borough assembly and school board. It marks the first election for the new consolidated Haines Borough.

Wasilla residents were voting for a new mayor and two city council members.

Residents of Homer, Seward, Soldotna and Kenai are choosing city council members.

In addition, the Kenai Peninsula mayor's seat and seven of the nine seats on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly are up for grabs. Kenai Peninsula voers were also deciding whether to exempt most groceries from a borough-wide sales tax.
