ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Department of Natural Resources on Tuesday closed the Hatcher Pass Road for the winter at the summit.
The road was closed from the Palmer side at Mile 17.5 to the Willow side at Mile 20.5.
That portion of the road is not maintained during winter months and is already hazardous due to freezing and snowy weather, according to the department.
The road over the pass is expected to remain closed and gated until early July.
