Beekeepers all a buzz

The BeeKeepers Educational Exchange on the Peninsula BeeKeep will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Soldotna Middle School's library. Don Douthit will give a presentation on wintering bees. It is open to the pubic. For more information, call Steve Albers at 260-6121 or Rosy Thompson at 262-6084.

Pingpong returns

Pingpong is available to play for free from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through mid-December at Redoubt Elementary School on Binkley Avenue.

Adults and children (at least 6 years old) and of any skill level are welcome.

Tables and equipment provided by the Boys and Girls Club and the school. Players are asked to bring a paddle if they have one. Supplies may be limited.

Methamphetamines to be discussed

A community meeting to discuss the effects of methamphetamine titled "Methamphetamine: A Blight on Society" will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kenai Central High School. The topics will be information on meth, effects of meth and dangers posed by meth to the community. Personal stories also will be given. The presentation will conclude with information about prevention and rehabilitation from local organizations. For more information, call (907) 277-1980.

MOPS open house planned

The Mothers of Preschoolers group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Kenai New Life Assembly of God Church, across from the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska. Refreshments, activities and giveaways are planned. For more information, call Jennifer Harvey at 260-6720.

Caregiver support group to meet

The National Family Caregiver Support Program will hold a caregiver support meeting from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Sterling Senior Center. For more information, call 262-1280.

Steak dinner, auction fundraiser planned

A steak dinner and Chinese auction fundraiser will be held for Landon Rogers at 6 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Hall at 902 Cook St. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. The price of admission is $5 per person. Live music also is planned.

Landon, 4, is terminally ill with non-hodgkin's lymphoma.

Quilters to gather

Stitches of Love Quilters will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at in Redoubt Elementary School's library.

The group will put together several quilts that already have been pieced and do tying. Participants are welcome to bring their own projects. It is open to the public.

Domestic violence workshop planned

The LeeShore Center will hold a community awareness workshop on domestic violence and sexual assault from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 through 26 at the center. Topics will include domestic violence, sexual assault, effects of domestic violence on children, the center's batterers' intervention program and volunteering with shelter clients.

It is open to the public. Attendees may participate in a portion or the entire workshop. Continuing education credit may be attained after completion of the workshop and 30 hours of volunteer work with the center.

Teen center seeks donations

The fairgrounds in Ninilchik hosts a Teen Center for youth ages 13 to 18.

Teen Night is held every other Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. This is an alcohol and drug free event. There is a $3 cover charge to help pay for utilities.

The center is looking for donations of television sets, old game systems, a juke box or other items teens might enjoy. For more information, call Lara McGinnis at 398-4468.
