SKAGWAY (AP) -- The search for a hiker missing since Tuesday near Skagway continued Sunday.

Charles Gay, 28, of Montrose, British Columbia left a Skagway hostel on Tuesday. Gay, who is a geologist, told the hostel manager he was heading to Upper Dewey Lakes to look for rocks.

When no on from the hostel heard from him by Wednesday morning, the manager reported Gay overdue. Troopers don't think Gay had overnight gear with him.

The 2.8-mile trail to Upper Dewey Lakes begins at sea level and climbs steeply above tree line to 45-hundred feet.

Trooper Matthew Hightower said 15 people along with search and rescue dogs were combing the area Sunday. Hightower said the search area was broadened to include lower areas of the mountain.
