Washington man dies in logging accident near Haines

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Washington man was killed over the weekend in a logging accident near Haines, the Alaska State Troopers say.

Mark S. Thompsen, 44, of Port Angeles, died Sunday when a tree next to the one he was cutting ''lost root'' and fell on him, striking him on the back, neck and head, troopers said.

Thompsen was working for S.E. Builders at the time. The company was logging near Mile 33.5 of the Haines Highway in Southeast Alaska.
