Fire station fund-raiser planned

A garage-craft sale fund-raiser to benefit the Funny River Fire Station will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mile 16.5 of Funny River Road. To donate items for the garage sale, call Mary at 262-6234 or to donate items to the craft sale, call 262-6051.

Independent center to celebrate birthday

The Independent Living Center will celebrate the second anniversary of the Alaska Medicaid Consumer Personal Care Services program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the center. The center is at 47255 Princeton Ave. in Soldotna.

The program allows individuals to direct their personal care and allows them to live and receive services in their homes and the communities of their choosing.

Coho salmon available

The Bear Creek Weir has a limited amount of fresh, slightly blushed, whole silver salmon for sale as part of the cost recovery process. The average weight of the fish is 7 to 8 pounds. Cost of the fish is $5 to $9 per fish.

Library commission meeting canceled

The Kenai Community Library Commission meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Kenai City Council Chambers has been canceled. For more information, call 283-7535, ext. 231.

Blood donations needed

The Blood Bank of Alaska currently is facing a critical shortage of type O-negative blood. O-negative blood is the universal blood type most used to treat emergency and trauma cases since it can be use by patients of any blood type. For more information or to donate, call 260-5672.

Resident needed for fair board

The Kenai Peninsula State Fair is looking for a new board member. The board is comprised of nine members from around the peninsula and is responsible for producing the fair and making decisions about the fairgrounds.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and have a desire to promote the fair. The position will be voted on at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the membership meeting. For more information and the location of the meeting, call (907) 567-3670.

Boys and Girls Club plans open house

The Boys and Girls Club in Kenai will hold an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the club in Kenai. The theme for the open house is "Lights On Afterschool!" It is part of a nationwide event calling attention to after school programs and the important role these programs play in the lives of children. The public is encouraged to attend. Soldotna chamber to host fund-raiser

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its ninth annual pie auction Oct. 11. Part of the proceeds are used to support its high school scholarship fund. This year's theme includes an authentic luau dinner, festive atmosphere, auction and a grand prize trip for two to Hawaii.

Forty-five pies baked by area gourmets will be auctioned off, with each pie having a prize attached to it. Tables for 10 and individual tickets are available. Seating is limited. For more information or to reserve a seat, call Erica at 262-9814.
