ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Anchorage man was accidentally shot by another man during a weekend bird hunting trip in Devil's Pass, Alaska State Troopers said.
Craig R. Woolard, 36, sought treatment at Providence Alaska Medical Center, which reported the mishap to troopers.
Woolard was bird hunting Sunday with Mark A. Stafford, 48, of Anchorage in the Devil's Pass area around Mile 39 of the Seward Highway.
Around noon, a bird flew between the men and Stafford shot at it with a 12-gauge shotgun. Stafford did not see Woolard in the brush, troopers said.
Woolard was hit in the side of the face and head with 10 to 12 pellets.
The men hiked back to their vehicle and drove to the Anchorage hospital.
