Historical societies set to meet in Kenai Saturday

Posted: Thursday, October 03, 2002

Historical societies from around the Kenai Peninsula will gather Saturday at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai for the semi-annual meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Historical Association.

The speaker will be Dorothy Gray, who in 1996 spearheaded the effort to renovate the Russian Orthodox rectory in Kenai. Gray, whose maternal grandparents came from what used to be Czechoslovakia, was born and baptized in the Russian Orthodox faith. She moved to Alaska 25 years ago and recently retired from the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

The Kenai Historical Society will serve refreshments beginning at 9 a.m. and a lunch at noon. The business meeting will start at 10 a.m., with the program scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 283-7700.
