Chugach National Forest staff announced the opening of four new vault toilets for public use at Turnagain Pass this week as part of the Turnagain Pass Recreation Facility project.
Recreation area improvements includes enlarged parking for snowmachiners on the west side of the Seward Highway. Other rest area site work, to be completed next spring, includes paving the expanded parking area, paving of trails on both sides of the highway, installation of trash containers, and seeding. In addition, several picnic sites will be added on the east side of the highway and the Center Ridge Trail, also on the east side, is being extended several hundred feet to a scenic overlook.
