Election discussion to be held

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue will host an informal discussion on democracy and the upcoming election at 7:30 p.m. today. An optional potluck will begin at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For more information and the location, call 283-6650.

Blood drives planned

The Blood Bank of Alaska will hold off site blood drives from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Health Fair in Seward. For more information, call Amy at 260-5672.

National 4-H week scheduled

National 4-H week is Sunday through Oct. 11. The Cooperative Extension Office on Kalifornsky Beach Road will hold an open house to celebrate local 4-H groups at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The open house is an opportunity for community members to explore what 4-H has to offer. Information on existing and on newly forming mushing and shooting clubs will be available. Adult leadership is needed. For more information, call 262-5824.

Montessori students line up for smiles

School pictures at the Soldotna Montessori Charter School are slated for Monday. Prepayment is required.

Skate club offers free skating

The Denali Ice Club will have one hour of free ice skating at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Soldotna Sports Center. Information will be available on club membership and upcoming events. For more information, call Linda at 262-9731 or Kathy 262-2253.

Flu clinics scheduled

The Homer Public Health Clinic will hold flu clinics from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 23 and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 16 and 30 at the center; from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 at the senior center in Homer and in Anchor Point; and from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center. Adult basketball sign-ups planned

The Peninsula Sports Association will hold sign-ups for the 2003-04 adult basketball program at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and 16 at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club. The season will begin Nov. 3 and run through April. For more information, call Cedric at 335-2266.

UAA staffer to discuss medical imaging program

Erica Wight of the University of Alaska Anchorage's department of medical imaging will speak at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 in room 132 at Kenai Peninsula College about the radiology program at UAA.

Driver safety class offered

An eight hour driver safety course offered through AARP will be held Oct. 10 and 11. The class fee is $10 and covers the cost of materials. Participants may qualify to have a ticket dismissal and have their auto insurance reduced. For more information and class location, call Vivian at 260-3966.
