Middle school runners tackle boroughs

The Kenai Peninsula Borough middle school meet was held on Sept. 23 at Kenai Middle School.

In the girls race, Kayla Williamson of Homer won by running the 1.6-mile course in 9 minutes, 50 seconds. There were no team scores kept, but Williamson led a sweep of the top three places by Homer.

In the boys race, Andrew Buchanan of Seward won with a time of 8:52. The Kenai boys took five of the top 10 spots.

Kenai, Soldotna win middle school soccer

The Kenai Central boys and Soldotna silver girls won championships on Saturday at the Kenai Peninsula Borough middle school soccer tournament at Nikiski Middle-High School.

In the boys championship game, Kenai defeated Nikiski 5-3. In the consolation game, Soldotna maroon defeated Homer 5-0 to take third place.

In the girls championship game, Soldotna silver defeated Kenai 3-1. In the consolation game, Soldotna maroon defeated Seward 3-1 for third place.
