Two task forces appointed by the Soldotna city mayor have approved a location for a cemetery location off West Redoubt Avenue. A consultant from the Anchorage Cemetery also recommended this site as the best location within the city for a memorial park cemetery.
This location would have minimal impact on traffic in the area since funerals involve few vehicles, geologic studies indicate the land is level with good soils, it is heavily vegetated with trees to serve as buffers with fencing, would be a quiet, restful location with a view of the Kenai River, would be landscaped beautifully to accommodate a memorial park cemetery setting and is within close reach of local security.
Modern cremation and embalming processes create no significant contributing sources of contamination to the soils and groundwater, including our Kenai River. Two borough administrations have offered road access off West Redoubt Avenue to this location.
The cemetery would certainly be a quiet, lovely neighbor. It would also hold our ancestors and the history of our town in its heart. Together we can make this work. Please join me in voting yes on this ballot issue October 7.
