It is very important to get out and vote on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
With a financial crisis upon us and the country going into a recession, this is a very critical election. In my dealings with the Soldotna City Council, one person stands above in the mayor's race and that is Peter Micciche. He has shaken up the business-as-usual attitude of the city council and has brought well-deserved change to the city. He will listen to the people and will bring a business person's view to the city as Soldotna mayor and watch the taxpayers money with a keen eye.
On the sales tax holiday from September through May, this needs to be approved by the voters. This will only effect food items and all the full-time residents who stay all winter deserve this break. Food costs are going out of sight, and people's wages are not going up.
Do not be frightened by the city, school and borough officials who are trying to scare you by saying it will cut services and bring a disaster to the city. It is time they look at cuts and funding only the necessary items. A possible way to save money, go to a four-day, 10-hour work day in the city, borough and school district.
In the borough mayor race we have two fine people running, the question is do we change mayors at the borough level at this critical time. I feel that we cannot afford to make a change at this time. Mayor Williams has sometimes stuck his foot in his mouth, but I know that he will always give you his opinion on the items and not bow done to political expediency. So just get out and vote.
