Bears earn split: Rage come back with OT victory on Saturday

The visiting Kenai River Brown Bears defeated the Dawson Creek Rage 3-2 on Friday before falling to the Rage 5-4 in overtime on Saturday in North American Hockey League action.

The Brown Bears are now 4-5-1, while Dawson Creek is 3-5-1. The Brown Bears are in fourth place in the division, while the Rage are in fifth place.

On Friday, Zack Capozza scored with 2:47 left in the third period to break a 2-2 tie. The assist on the goal came from Matt Thompson.

The Rage had taken the lead in the first period on a goal by Dakota Mason. Kenai River came back to tie the game on a goal by Daniel Turgeon, assisted by Kegan Kiel and Jesse Ramsey.

Doug Beck, assisted by Trent Wohlers, scored the only goal of the second period to give the Brown Bears the lead.

Mason tallied his second goal of the game 6:49 into the third period to tie the game and set up Capozza's game winner.

The Brown Bears outshot the Rage 36-31. Josh Benton had 29 saves for Kenai River, while Edward Dyson had 33 saves for Dawson Creek.

On Saturday, Doug Beck scored with 2:06 left in the game to forge a tie score, but Dawson Creek's Brett Zarazun scored 1:14 into overtime for the victory.
