Bad weather didn't stop car wash for good cause

Posted: Monday, October 04, 2004

Sept. 25, during the first snowstorm of the season, parents and sixth-graders worked at the annual sixth-grade car wash at Kenai Middle School. The money raised is for the sixth-grade Outdoor Education Camp to be held next spring. Despite the inclement weather, our students had fun and did a quality job washing quite a few cars!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredible, above-and-beyond support to the following parents: Loriel Burdick, Ruth "Rocky" Missik, Linda Larson, Karen Cupp, Joe Moore, Brad Frates, Blaine Gilman, Lesa Baker, Nate Kiel, Kim Harding, Susan Rorrison, Bobby Clucas, Amy Williams, Denise Dukowitz, Carolann Barum, Cathy Mayer, Jan Mabrey, Kelly and Bill Warren, Chris Watkins, Bobbie Blithe, Shannon West, Jim and Martina Cartwright, Kathy Moore, Pam Satathite, Sharon Hart O'Hara and Amy Peterson. Without their help and quality control, we would not be able to put on such fun fund-raisers!

We are also very thankful for Ms. Jean Dixon, the eighth-grade leadership class teacher at our school, who helps with the car wash every year! She enlists many of her leadership students who learn citizenship and responsibility as they help the sixth graders.

Special thanks to RJ Munn, Alex Sonnichsen, Leah Stephens, Ashlyn Curry (Ross), Rachel Tyson, Christina Fischer, Nadya Matiya, Kristen Lawrence, Devon Cowans, Antonya Loomis, Cara Conte, Kammi Carlson and Molly Watkins. These students are such good role models for the sixth graders. Way to go, leadership!

We would also like to thank the Cunninghams of McDonald's for their donations of drinks and cups, and the many others, such as Safeway, who donated energizing snack foods for this event.

We were also fortunate to have a donation of 50 desperately needed, ear-warming headbands donated by the Cook Inlet Region Inc.

Kenai is an awesome place to live because of our great kids, parents and community support. Again, thank you.
